Arabic-first interface design for UAE business banking. Built RTL from the ground up not mirrored from an English layout.
RTL AS STRUCTURE
Direction is not a flip. Message alignment, chevrons, progress direction, icon orientation, and scroll behaviour were all set from right-to-left as the origin. Every asymmetric element was drawn for RTL rather than transformed into it.
MIXED-DIRECTION TEXT
Email addresses, phone numbers with country codes, licence numbers, and free-zone acronyms (DET, JAFZA, DMCC, DIFC) are LTR strings inside RTL paragraphs. Each is isolated so it never reverses, fragments, or drags punctuation to the wrong edge.
This is the most common breakage point in Arabic banking UI and the detail this screen set exists to prove.
NUMERALS
Western-Arabic numerals inside Arabic sentences currency, licence numbers, OTP digits matching how UAE financial documents are actually written. Tabular figures throughout so digits don't shift layout as they change.
ARABIC TYPOGRAPHY
Arabic set at the same optical weight as Latin reads lighter, so weight and leading were adjusted rather than inherited. Line height increased for the connected script and taller baseline. Two weights, no italics — Arabic doesn't have them, and faux-oblique was never an option.
COMPONENT CRAFT
Message bubbles, selection chips, verification cards, OTP input, dropdown lists, and confirmation states — all built as RTL-native components with variants. Bilingual by variant, so the same component serves AR and EN without duplication.
